2007 Canyon Del Oro League Champions

The Tucson Jewish Community Center StingRays swim team won their League Championships with some great swimming by all of our athletes. A long hot summer of training and lots of great meets prepared the team to really gain a lot of points and win with style, form and great fitness. A special thanks goes out to our great coaches Mike, Greg, Michele and Kylie for all their hard work and kind words for the kids. Thanks to all the parents who delivered the athletes to practice, supported them at the meets and gave their time and help at our home meets. We could not do it with out you.

Team Scores

  1. Tucson Jewish Community Center 667
  2. Highland Vista 540
  3. Tucson Country Club 388.5
  4. Los Tiburones 316.5
  5. Indian Ridge 272

Out of five teams total the TJCC Stingrays earned 667 points and took home the 1st place trophy for the Canada del Oro League Championships!

81% of our swimmers who swam in Prelims qualified for Championships

  • 61 swimmers entered in Prelims
  • 50 swimmers qualified for Finals in the Championships

49% of our swimmers improved at least one of their times at Prelims

  • 30 out of 61 swimmers
  • [27 swimmers out of 61 did not have times from last year and, therefore, couldn’t be included in these statistics. Assuming that all 27 would have improved at least one of their times, then 57 out of 61 swimmers would have improved (93%)].

48% of our swimmers improved at least one of their times at Championships

  • 24 out of 50 swimmers

Congratulations to our “high point” winners: .

Upcoming Security Changes for Swim Team

Upcoming Security Changes for Swim Team

As our world becomes more complex, we have been forced to rethink our open campus. Most JCC’s have secured their building and although we are reluctant, it has been the consensus of the Board of Directors, as well as members, that we should strengthen security while maintaining the family atmosphere for which we are known.

We are beginning with the following:

Locking the Café Door 12/1/2007

After much discussion, it’s been decided that the café door will be a members only door.

Members:

  • Parents may park in back and swipe your key tag for access to bring your swimmer in through the café doors
  • If your swimmer is 6th grade or older, they may have their own key tag and swipe themselves in through the door.
  • You may also drop off/pick up your swimmer through the main entrance since the front entrance will remain unlocked.

The Café door will open for you when you swipe your key tag. Since it is not manned, it will not open for you if your membership is expired or if you don’t have your card. We did not want little ones to be dropped off with no access through a locked door. If you have received a new tag within the last 2 years, you already have one. We have issued 3 colors so far – pink, blue and orange – and they are all current cards. See Sue, Lechele, or the Sports and Fitness Desk if you do not have a key tag

Non-Members

  • You may drop off and pick up through the front door only.

In the interest of safety, your swimmer should remain on the deck after practice until pickup time. They should not be waiting on the bench outside the handicapped door or in the parking lot. Handicapped Only Sports and Fitness Door 11/2/2007

  • Only those with state issued handicapped plates or tags will be granted access through this door.
  • Special Door Access Swipe Cards are issued to operate the door. Only these special swipe cards will operate this door. Membership key tags will not.
  • The buzzer that was in use has been disconnected.

Please keep in mind that if you currently use the front door, this will not affect you. Please be assured that this is not in response to anything that has happened on our campus. Instead, it is to give you peace of mind in a changing world. Questions? You may call me at x110, or feel free to call Ken Light, Chief Executive Officer (x101) or Denise Blumenthal, Chief Operating Officer (x102). Thanks again for your support

SAAA Meet Schedule Posted

The SAAA Meet Schedule and list of important events have been posted. Please pay close attention to Entry deadlines, these are there to ensure that your swimmers are entered for the meets. Also please check the requirements for the Invitationals and the Championships. If you have any questions please see Coach Michael before or after practice.

SAAA: Swim Meet June 3rd at Eastern Hills

Reminders for the meet on the 3rd of June

  • Warmup at 5:30 please be on time for warmups
  • meet starts 6:00
  • please plan to stay for relays or let the coaches know otherwise it is disappointing to the kids if their relays get scratched because a team mate is missing at start time
  • remember that swimmers can get cold getting out of the pool in the evening even when it is very hot outside
  • bring plenty of water and food, keep the swimmers hydrated during the day and have them eat well
  • plan to keep an eye on your swimmers and help them get to their starts, there are a lot of swimmers to manage and not a lot of time between events.

From the other team:

We have a great, inexpensive (cheap) snack bar at our meets. We will have grilled burgers, dogs, pasta salad, chicken caesar salad, brownies, sodas, water, treats…

Have fun, good luck, swim FAST
